The Riedl Villa, Desná v Jizerských horách

Curative wells, mineral springs and air spas are all part of the Jizera Mountains. The first spa of this type in the area was founded in 1839 in Potočná, now part of Desná v Jizerských horách, by Jablonec native and doctor Josef Schindler. He was one of the first people in Bohemia to build a hydrotherapeutic institute and cold spa, using his father-in-law’s bleach works. He then created Magdalena’s park around it. The Sedmihorky Spa, Sedmihorky

Sedmihorky spa lies a mere 50 km to the north east of Prague. It is one of the oldest hydrotherapeutic institutes in Bohemia, founded in 1841 to continue in the hydrotherapeutic methods used by Vincenc Prieznitz. The spa was established by MUDr Antonín Šlechta, who came from a well-known family of textile industrialists. He obtained a medical diploma in 1836 and became the family doctor of Count Desfours, owner of the Hrubý Rohozec estate. Świeradów Zdrój is a health resort located in the Izera Mountains.
