The Centrum Babylon, Liberec, Nitranská 1

Centrum Babylon is an entirely unique centre of family entertainment and social life in the Jeřáb district of Liberec. It was created in 1997 with the reconstruction, designed by Jiří Palas, of the unused and unattended weaving factory of Neumann & Bürren from Wupperthal – Barmen. The first weaving mill here was built in line with the plans of builder Bürger in 1885 as a single-storied building with basement on a ground plan of 16 x 12 fields with a roof supported by cast iron pillars, to which a boiler house, engine room and administrative building were attached. The company was renamed C. Neumann Söhne, Barmen – Reichenberg (Liberec) – Wien in 1902 and the complex was expanded between 1905 and 1914. Fritz Hüsgen, the architect from Wupperthal who designed the annex, adapted the atypical production building with an arcade and a high attic roof of the type used in town development. The factory complex kept this appearance until the 1990s. The current indoor complex covers some 30 000 m2  and offers  opportunities   for  entertainment,

relaxation and active leisure. The most attractive part is the first AQUAPARK in the Czech Republic, with its system of pools, caves and other water attractions. Most popular is the unique water slide that runs into a giant funnel, from which you drop into the depths of the pool. The aquapark is designed in the romantic style of ancient baths. The IQ Park, meanwhile, is the place to test your knowledge and skill. Here you can experiment and play with dozens of interactive exhibits. The fun fair (Lunapark) offers further entertainment whilst the wellness centre provides relaxation in the form of a salt cave and loungers. There are also a number of stylish restaurants. The whole place is like a town within a town under one roof. There is even the unique atmosphere of a shopping town, home to dozens of shops, streets, a square and street lamps. It is the dominant modern feature of the region, a popular destination for individual and organised trips for Czech and foreign tourists..
