The ABB, Jablonec nad Nisou, Jablonecké Paseky

The ABB factory complex in Jablonec nad Nisou is found on the Harrachov – Jablonec nad Nisou road in the district of Jablonecké Paseky. This part of Jablonec nad Nisou is its oldest production hub of electrical goods. The symbol of electrical goods from the Jizera Mountains was the Kramer and Löbl Company of the beginning of the 20th century. Gustav Kramer and Albert Löbl founded a glass refining plant and export company in Lučany nad Nisou in 1868, moving production to Jablonec nad Nisou in 1876. At that time they were working with ship builders, to whom they supplied round glass for cabin windows and mirrors for spotlights. The company began producing electrical goods in 1908, when Hugo Löbl joined. It was under his leadership that the original factory, built in 1896, became a modern factory complex between 1910 and 1921. Jablonec town architect R. Hemmrich and the building companies of A. Fiedl and Carl Daut were the main players in construction work. Production offered a wide range of goods for high and low voltage, for the installation of wiring (switches, fuses, sockets, high voltage devices) and illuminants.

A specialised workshop at which radio components were made was created in 1928. This was also one of the first companies to make products from bakelite, in 1932. The company was taken over by Hans Büllmann, Werke für Elektrotechnik und Feinmechanik after the border area became part of Germany. The complex was expanded to include a hall with reinforced concrete frame, built by the Carl Daut Company in line with the designs of the Lossow and Kühne design studio from Dresden. Forced labour from all over Europe worked here during the Second World War. The production of wiring material continued under the name of AA Elektro Praga, national enterprise, after nationalisation in 1946. This then became the wiring division of the international ABB group, with its headquarters in Prague, following the economic and political changes of the end of the 20th century.
